Megan and Michael tied the knot at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas today in a ceremony officiated by Ernest Pua’a (The Barefoot Warrior).  With a Hawaiian solo guitarist providing the ceremony music and Maui providing the sunset it proved to be a blessed combination.

We had the honor of coordinating Milan and John’s elegant wedding at the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas. An absolutely beautiful couple, amazing music and great weather! Who could ask for more?

Walking down the Isle to Pachelbel’s Canon in D, played on violin by Iolani, made for a perfect start to a warm, loving ceremony surrounded by friends and family.

After cocktails  next to the koi poinds, the party moved on to dinner in Pulehu.

The Pacific Whale Foundation organizes a variety of schemes that allow you to gain free entry to certain parks, get a free gift (usually a T-Shirt or a Tote bag, check with the PWF) and get to meet local experts who spend time helping you understand the environment whilst you work to improve it. The work isn’t too tough and won’t take take up much of your time, but it will help you understand Maui better and help preserve the beauty of the Island. Also make sure to check if there are any items you should bring with you, often bottled water \ snacks \ good boots may be required.

Pidgin is a real, living language. It owes its origins to the many diverse cultures that arrived in Hawai’i. Derived mostly from English, Pidgin also incorporates true Hawaiian words and also phonetic derivatives. Pidgin is spoken to some degree by most locals in day to day life. Some true Hawaiian is also used. The bible has been translated into Pidgin and retitled ‘da Jesus book’ and is available in local stores. Below are some of the more common words you may hear and their meaning.

Over the coming year we hope to build up a great resource for visitors, sharing our local knowledge of what to do during your visit to Maui. Whilst Maui is a relatively small Island, many of its best experiences take a little local knowledge to get the best from.

Apologies for the wind noise (I was just grabbing a few pictures but couldn’t resist getting some of this on video), I just had to share this awesome music from a recent wedding. The music is Pachelbel’s Canon , a personal favourite!

We often use the Westin Ka’anapali Ocean Resort Villas and the onsite Pulehu restaurant for weddings so we thought it would be useful to share some of the setup pictures to help you visualise your wedding day.

I love renewals, it’s always reassuring to see people reaffirming their love after years of marriage! Ingrid sweelty planned the renewal as a suprise for Bill.  He had no idea what was in store as they went for a stroll along the walkway, heading for dinner at Duke’s at Honua Kai.

Maui didn’t let us down and provided a beautiful sunset as a backdrop to a heartfelt renewal officiated by Ernest. The vegetation line at the Westin is perfect for intimate wedding and renewal ceremonies, providing a stunning and reasonably private location.

We wish Ingrid and Bill another ten years of obvious passion and look forward to welcoming them back to Maui.
